From Chaos to Coherence: Biofield Science and Why Healers Lead the Future

Humanity stands on a precipice of what could be a new era of human evolution, or human demise. As the human family wakes up to our fullest capacities to heal and unify, the charge of healers has never been more powerful. Today’s healers are leaders of this human evolution, and it is critical that all of us are fortified with knowledge, practice and connection so that we can amplify healing within ourselves and our communities.

In this interactive presentation, Dr. Shamini Jain will share the scientific realities of healing through the lens of biofield science, tying together patient stories with peer reviewed, published scientific data that show how powerful healing energy can be – from cells to communities. Drawing from this data, you’ll explore the leadership roles healers can play in helping provide harmony to a distracted, distressed world. Through guided energy meditations and discussion, as well as sharing exciting “news from the collective” of healing leaders in the 501c3 social profit Consciousness and Healing Initiative (CHI), Dr. Jain will lead you into joy, hope and inspiration as we dive into our biggest resource for sustainable evolution – our healing connection.

Dr. Shamini Jain is Founder and CEO of the Consciousness and Healing Initiative (CHI), an international collaborative of scientists, healing practitioners, educators and artists who lead humanity to heal ourselves.  She also serves as an adjunct professor at UC San Diego’s Department of Family Medicine, where she supports education within UCSD’s Centers for Integrative Health.  Dr. Jain is a clinical psychologist and an award-winning researcher and author in psychoneuroimmunology, integrative health and biofield science. Her online courses in the science and practice of self-healing and personal transformation can be found at CHI, Shift Network and Humanity’s Team. Dr. Jain’s two-time award winning book Healing Ourselves: Biofield Science and the Future of Health is available from booksellers world-wide.

Plenary Speakers

Enlightened Healing Research

Can we study energy healing using traditional scientific methods and formal research techniques? What is this energy that we feel during healing sessions?

Over 60 years ago, Bernard Grad produced groundbreaking studies to measure the effects of healing on plants. Since that time, researchers have looked at ways to apply healing energies to improve our lives, and recent research is attempting to measure the energies that are often described by healing practitioners and their patients.

Energy healing comes in many forms. Besides the variety of healing methods and techniques that have been developed over the centuries, each individual healer takes a unique approach to their sessions. Through a survey of different approaches to healing, John Kruth will present a number of research techniques that have been used to measure healing effects and understand the mechanisms behind healing.

John Kruth, MS, is the Executive Director of the Rhine Research Center and the Founder and Education Director of the Rhine Education Center. His research includes explorations into subtle energies of the body including psychic healing, the energy behind psychokinesis, poltergeist activity and other unconscious effects on electronic devices, and measurements of biophotons (ultraviolet light) from energy healers.   He has numerous publications and has spoken at professional conferences and other forums regarding scientific parapsychology, the history of the Rhine, the nature of energy healing, poltergeists, and other topics related to parapsychology and the paranormal.

Reiki Research — Aiming High

Scientific research on the effectiveness of Reiki is essential if we want to convince medical professionals to invest their time, finances, and effort in helping Reiki find its place in allopathic medicine.

In this discussion of Reiki research, Dr. Ann Baldwin, will briefly explain the Touchstone Process which was developed by William Rand and the Center for Reiki Research (CRR) to rigorously evaluate all peer-reviewed Reiki research studies published in scientific journals in English. Using this process CRR has created a database of critical summaries of the studies that is easily accessible to both the Reiki and the medical/scientific communities through the Internet. Dr. Baldwin will focus on the current status of Reiki research based on the evaluation scores produced from the Touchstone Process over the last five years.

Although close to one third of the studies are very good or excellent, there is still room for improvement. Dr. Baldwin will outline the ways that Reiki scientists can improve future research with reference to Biofield Therapies: Guidelines for Reporting Clinical Trials. This guide clearly lays out exactly what items need to be included to produce work of excellent quality and is freely accessible online to all.

Dr. Ann Baldwin, PhD, is a Professor Emerita of Physiology at the University of Arizona, Director of Mind-Body-Science, and CRR’s Editor-in-Chief. She obtained her Bachelors degree in Physics from University of Bristol, UK, her Masters degree in Radiation Physics from University of London, UK, and her PhD in Physiology from Imperial College, University of London. Dr. Baldwin has authored The Vagus Nerve in Therapeutic Practice. Working with Clients to Manage Stress and Enhance Mind-Body Function and Reiki in Clinical Practice. A Science-Based Guide.

Panel Discussions

Establishing a Reiki Program in the Healthcare Setting

This panel will discuss approaches to bringing Reiki into the healthcare setting for both patients and healthcare staff, including how to conduct research of the program. Successes and challenges will be explored, providing guidance for healthcare workers, researchers, and Reiki practitioners interested in bringing Reiki into hospitals.

Panelists Kae Fink, Helene Williams, Bob Crandall, and Sandy Priester bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to this topic from diverse perspectives.

Moderated by Dr. Jennifer DiBenedetto

Reiki and Placebo: Healing, Belief, and Science in Dialogue

What is the role of the placebo effect in the therapeutic benefits of Reiki? This engaging conversation will delve into the methodological challenges involved in placebo-controlled Reiki research, the science behind mind-body connections, and the role of belief in healing. This panel promises thought-provoking insights and respectful dialogue on controlling for a placebo effect for optimal study design.

Panelists Patricia DeLeon, Natalie Dyer, Sonia Zadro, and David McManus bring expertise in exploring the boundary of Reiki and the placebo effect.

Experiential Sessions

One of the not-to-be-missed conference highlights are the experiential sessions where you will receive beautiful healing Reiki energy from renowned practitioners:

Mainstream Reiki’s Andrea Kennedy will open the conference with a calming Reiki meditation, which will ground and center you, inviting Reiki energy to flow through and connect all participants as we embark on two days of exploration into Reiki research. Together, we’ll set intentions for open hearts, curious minds, and collective healing, creating a space where science and spirit meet in harmony.

On October 4th, Alexandria Hall from Spirit Hero Healing will lead a profoundly Rooting Chakra Meditation, inviting Reiki energy to assist in balancing and grounding your energy complemented by the harmonious resonance of crystal sound bowls. This sacred meditation will anchor your energy deep into the earth, guiding you to discover tranquility in the present moment.
